CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION OF CARICOM SKILLS QUALIFICATION
The Certificate of Recognition of CARICOM Skills Qualification programme facilitates the free movement of labour by CARICOM Skilled Nationals (CSNs) by allowing CSNs of participating CARICOM nations to move between nations to seek and pursue work opportunities without needing to obtain a work permit. The information below provides insight into the activity within this programme during the month of November 2023.
During November 2023, forty-three (43) Certificate applications were received, and thirty-eight (38) Certificates were issued. The number of applications received was a 14% decrease from the tally amassed during October, meanwhile the number of Certificates issued was unchanged from October. Additionally, nine (9) Certificate verification requests were received, and two (2) Certificates were verified. The number of Certificate verification requests was a 13% increase from October’s tally while the number of Certificates verified was an 84% decrease.

As the chart above shows, the largest number of Certificates were issued to nationals from Jamaica. No Certificates were issued to nationals from Antigua & Barbuda, Belize, Dominica, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, nor Suriname.

The largest number of the 38 Certificates issued were to those who applied under the Household Domestics category. This category has seen substantial increases during 2023 that puts its tally for this year alone on pace to be significantly greater than its entire cumulative tally throughout the history of the programme. No Certificates were issued to anyone under the Agricultural Worker, Media Person, Musician, Nurse, Teacher, nor Sports Person categories.

An equal number of Certificates were issued to recipients within the 26-30, 31-35, and 41-45 age groups with each accounting for seven (7). The average age of Certificate recipients was 36.2, almost two years younger than the average age of 38.1 for October’s recipients.
BARBADOS ACCREDITATION COUNCIL RECOGNITION SERVICES
The Barbados Accreditation Council offers a number of recognition services that provide applicants the opportunity to learn the recognition status of qualifications, institutions, and programmes. The information below provides insight into the activities within these services during the month of November 2023.

As the table above shows, the demand for the Council’s Recognition Services declined slightly from October’s level of demand. During November, there were four (4) applications received across the services, with two (2) apiece being received for the Recognition of Qualifications (Equivalency) and Recognition of Institution and/or Programme service.
BARBADOS ACCREDITATION COUNCIL REGISTRATION SERVICES
As the sole entity with responsibility for assuring quality in post-secondary/tertiary education and training in Barbados, one of the BAC’s chief mandates is to register institutions seeking to operate in Barbados and offer their programmes of study. The information below provides a look into the activity within this service during the month of November 2023.

During November 2023, there was one (1) registration/re-registration completed, as the Insurance Institute of Barbados renewed their registered status for a three-year period. Prior to this, IIB was registered for the period June 2020 to June 2023.
