Bridgetown, Barbados – The Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) has taken a significant step in strengthening Barbados’ education and training landscape with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) Partnership.
The agreement builds on a longstanding relationship between the two organisations, dating back to 2007. Through this collaboration, the BAC has gained valuable insight into establishing access, transfer and progression opportunities, and approaches to implementing flexible, learning pathways, both essential to supporting workforce mobility and continuous upskilling.
The partnership comes at a pivotal moment, following Cabinet’s approval in October 2024 for the transition of the BAC into the Barbados Accreditation and Qualifications Authority (BAQA). This will introduce the Barbados Qualifications and Credit Framework (BQCF) which will allow for standardization and comparability between local qualifications allowing for greater ease moving vertically and horizontally throughout the framework, further facilitating educational advancement and life-long learning.

Lisa Gale, Executive Director of the BAC, stated:
The signing of this MOU serves to strengthen a relationship that has already provided the BAC with practical guidance as it moves towards becoming the BAQA. It positions Barbados to better support lifelong learning, recognise a wider range of skills, and respond to the changing needs of the workforce and economy.

The BAQA will serve as a central link between education providers, employers, and qualification holders in Barbados, ensuring qualifications remain relevant and aligned with national development priorities.
