The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus Secures Institutional Re-Accreditation from the Barbados Accreditation Council

Bridgetown, Barbados – September 21, 2026 – The University of the West Indies (UWI),
Cave Hill Campus has secured institutional re-accreditation with the Barbados
Accreditation Council (BAC) for 2026–2032. The BAC formally presented the Campus with
its Certificate of Institutional Accreditation, confirming its continued compliance with the
Council’s quality assurance standards for tertiary education.

The BAC presented the certificate on September 21, 2026, at its Phoenix Centre headquarters in
George Street, St Michael to Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the UWI, Cave Hill Campus,
Professor R. Clive Landis, PhD. Professor Landis expressed his gratitude to the dedicated efforts
of the team at the University, as well as the evaluation exercise carried out by the team from the
BAC.

Institutional accreditation assesses an institution as a whole—from governance and
administration to teaching, student support, and quality enhancement. It provides students,
employers, and the wider public with independent assurance that institutional policies and
practices meet established benchmarks. The process also promotes continuous improvement by
identifying strengths and opportunities for further development. Re-accreditation signals that
these systems remain robust and that the institution continues to uphold the standards
underpinning confidence in its educational provision.

BAC Executive Director Mrs. Lisa Gale commended The UWI Cave Hill Campus for sustaining
the standards expected of a leading tertiary institution and for its vital contribution to Barbados
and the wider region.

First accredited by the BAC in 2013, the Cave Hill Campus now enters a new six-year cycle,
reinforcing its commitment to institutional quality and accountability. The BAC congratulates the
Campus and recognises the leadership, faculty, staff, and wider campus community whose work
sustains the standards of an accredited tertiary institution.
