Bridgetown, Barbados – September 9, 2026 – The Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC)
has formally presented a Certificate of Programme Accreditation to the Insurance Institute
of Barbados (IIB), following the successful re-accreditation of its ‘Barbados Diploma in
Insurance’. The milestone reaffirms the IIB’s compliance with the BAC’s established
quality assurance standards for post-secondary/tertiary education.

The certificate was presented on September 9, 2026, at the BAC’s Phoenix Centre headquarters
in George Street, St. Michael. Chief Executive Officer of the IIB, Ms. Gina Welch, accepted the
certificate, which confirms the programme’s accreditation for the period 2026 to 2031. This
achievement reflects the IIB’s continued commitment to maintaining and strengthening the quality
of its programme of study as a tertiary education provider.
Programme accreditation requires institutions to periodically demonstrate that their programmes
of study meet the Council’s established standards including the programme’s mission and
objectives, governance and administration, curriculum effectiveness, and quality enhancement.
This process helps to ensure that programmes remain relevant, effective and fit for purpose.
Commenting on the achievement, Ms. Welch commended the programme accreditation process,
noting that it provides a valuable opportunity for institutions to assess their progress, identify
areas for improvement, and recognise strengths.
Mrs. Lisa Gale, Executive Director of the BAC, congratulated the IIB on the successful
reaccreditation of the ‘Barbados Diploma In Insurance’, expressing pride in the Institute’s non-
traditional programme. She further encouraged stakeholders to acknowledge the IIB’s continued
dedication to upholding the standards that contribute to the development of Barbados’
postsecondary and tertiary education sector.
